Mount Qingcheng: The Perfect Summer Retreat in Chengdu

In the scorching summer heat, Mount Qingcheng in Chengdu is undoubtedly a desirable retreat. As a famous Taoist mountain, it not only boasts a rich cultural heritage but also possesses a unique summer charm.


Location and Climate:

Mount Qingcheng is located southwest of Dujiangyan City, about 65 kilometers from downtown Chengdu. In July and August, the temperature on the mountain is 5-8 degrees lower than in the city, with an average temperature of around 25°C. The air is humid and fresh, making it an excellent choice for escaping the summer heat.

Natural Scenery:

Mount Qingcheng is renowned for its beautiful landscape. In summer, the mountain is lush and verdant. As you stroll along the tranquil mountain paths, you'll discover babbling brooks and splashing waterfalls, bringing a cool respite from the summer heat. The Qingcheng Lake in the mountains ripples with azure waves, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds, creating a natural ink painting.


Cultural Heritage:

As a famous Taoist mountain, Mount Qingcheng is dotted with numerous Taoist temples. The most famous among them is the Shangqing Palace, built during the Tang Dynasty. It is the largest Taoist temple on Mount Qingcheng and the most magnificent building on the entire mountain. Visiting these ancient temples in summer allows you to experience the charm of Taoist culture while finding refuge from the heat in their cool halls.


Special Activities:

July and August are the golden months for summer retreats and health cultivation on Mount Qingcheng. Many Taoist temples on the mountain organize various health lectures and experiential activities, such as Tai Chi classes and meditation courses. Participating in these activities not only improves physical health but also allows you to experience the essence of Taoist culture.


Food Recommendations:

The vegetarian cuisine on Mount Qingcheng is widely renowned. In summer, try a refreshing bowl of Qingcheng vegetarian noodles or some fragrant Taoist tea snacks. At the foot of the mountain, local farmhouses also serve various local specialties, such as Mount Qingcheng free-range chicken and mountain spring fish, all fresh and delicious.


Transportation Tips:

From downtown Chengdu, you can take a direct tourist bus to Mount Qingcheng, which takes about 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a high-speed train to Dujiangyan Station and then transfer to a bus to Mount Qingcheng, which is more convenient.
